Why Production Technologies
Production technologies represent one of the greatest potentials for generating prosperity, employment, and improved quality of life:
- Advanced production technologies are crucial for the competitiveness of industry across all manufacturing sectors.
- Production technologies play a central role in the industrial implementation of applied development frameworks related to sustainable development and technologies, environmental protection, safety and loss prevention, energy production, food processing, and water treatment.
- Manufacturing industries are one of the key economic pillars of Slovenia. Their share in the net income of the Republic of Slovenia amounts to 34.6%, they contribute 40.7% to the added value, and account for 71.3% of exports.
At the European Level
A similar picture is reflected in EU data, where production technologies represent:
- 21% of gross domestic product,
- 20% of direct employment (30 million people work in 230,000 companies),
- 18% of global trade,
- 28% of energy consumption.
In Connection with Service Activities
When taking into account that manufacturing companies also rely on service activities to operate, production is linked to as much as:
- 75% of gross domestic product,
- 70% of total employment (one job in manufacturing is linked to two jobs in the service sector).
The Future
Naturally, this field faces major challenges, as production technologies are also a main source of harmful emissions and waste. They are confronted with increasing competition from countries with lower labor costs.
The most important strategic goals related to production technologies are:
- The primary goal in the field of production technologies is to achieve sustainable solutions through environmentally friendly, efficient technologies and processes, and accessible products.
- The second goal is to strengthen both the number and excellence of technical professionals.
- The third goal is to significantly increase investment and the efficiency of investments in research and development. Since industrial societies in the past focused primarily on organizational rather than technological improvements, the contribution of manufacturing activities has stagnated for several years at around one percent annually. Therefore, industrial societies will need to substantially accelerate investments in technological development, new technologies, and new products.
The development of domestic knowledge, tools, and components of advanced technologies and products.
